As
part of its annual ritual, the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) and Natinal Park
in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district would remain closed for the tourists from June
16 ahead of the monsoon.
“The tiger reserve and
the national park are closed during the monsoon every year and entry to the
site is restricted for tourists. The closing date is fixed but the
reopening depends on the weather conditions.
The important tourist
destination in Mayurbhanj district will be shut for tourists ahead of the onset
of monsoons since June 16.
There are many scenic spots in
the STR, including Chahala, Badheipani, Jaranda, Naana, Gududia and
Jamuani, which attract hundreds of visitors every year. The visitors would
be deprived of the thrilling experience in the lap of Nature in all its
splendour till the reopening of the wildlife sanctuary after over four months.
The entry of
tourists is banned as the roads inside the STR get washed away during the rainy
season. The tiger reserve and the park is usually closed till October last or
November first week depending on the weather condition.
