Odisha’s traditional leaf plates could soon adorn buffet and dinner tables in the European countries with companies from the European Union evincing keen interest to upscale the eco-friendly, bio-degradable products to cater to the markets in Western nations.
Germany-based Leaf Republic has expressed intent to import the leaf plates and plant containers from the State and produce a market for them abroad. The State MSME department has decided to pitch in to
develop the leaf plate manufacturing units into modern and technologically advanced enterprises.
The company team would soon visit Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts to identify the clusters that would be developed for its requirement. It plans to start procurement from the ensuing 2014-15 commercial enterprize with an initial off-take to the tune of `50 lakh and increasing gradually.
