BHUBANESWAR: Seafood lovers can now enjoy fresh fish, shrimp, crab and prawn from Chilika Lake as the state government has decided to set up two 'Chilika Fresh' outlets in the city.
Initially, two outlets will be opened at OUAT Square and Chandrasekharpur on a pilot basis.
"Like Udyan Fresh that has been procuring vegetables directly from farmers and selling it to general public without interference of middlemen, we have planned to help fishermen of Chilika."With this we aim to provide a proper market to the fishermen of Chilika, who will get legitimate price for their catch and secure their livelihood, while people of the city can get fresh products at a reasonable price.
According to sources, more than 317 varieties of fish, 28 types of prawns and shrimps, 35 Brachyuran crabs, of which 12 edible species, and two spiny lobsters are available in Chilika.
